Texan singer-songwriter Conner Youngblood has been chipping away, perfecting his woozy, technically brilliant blend of pop and R&B for a solid four years now. An ex-college wrestler - a fact which belies the delicacy of his work - Youngblood, now 24 years-old, has pitched up in Nashville for the next chapter of his budding career. He'll release a new EP, The Generation Lift next month, and its lead single, 'Stockholm' appeared online a week or so back. Seemingly minimalistic with few instruments of note at play, 'Stockholm' takes a minute to get going before you realise the subtle complexity of Youngblood's layering and looping of shimmering harps, snapping snares and his own hypnotic effects-laden voice. Once you work it out, there's comfort to be found in yet another luxurious composition from this underrated star. - DC
